This was one truly life changing book. It isn’t the last and most recent that I have read, but is certainly the one that stung me most.
Hayden tells the story of a troublesome child she received into her class, and her journey to understanding, ‘taming’ and teaching a young girl who had a truly horrific past, even at her tender age.
I won’t say much more in case you wish to read it, but it is a book that helped to change the course of my life.
As a result of reading this book, I decided that I wanted to truly specialise in special needs teaching, that was the path forward for me.
Torey Hayden inspired me to complete a special needs Masters degree, and go on to work with child’s that the education system ‘rejects’ as un-teachable.
Like Hayden, I find children fascinating, and it is extremely rewarding when you manage to unlock the potential that is sometimes hidden deep inside them, covered up with masquerades and a variety of behaviours.
This is not any ordinary story of a child who had a
troublesome life. This is a journey of a special needs teacher who works tirelessly to understand all of her students, so she can get the best out of each and every one of them.

Ah, I simply must check this out!
Thank you so much for the recommendation. It sounds wonderful.:)
Beware, once you have read one of Torey Hayden’s books, you might feel compelled to read more of them! Let me know what you think of it
I will!
I love this book too. I am about to read the sequel The Tiger’s Child. Thanks for your thoughts.
